Lyons resignation expected tonight
Tommy Lyons is expected to step down as Dublin football manager tonight.
A press conference has been called at Parnell Park for 7.30pm in which the Dubs boss’ departure is expected.
Tommy Lyons was praised as Dublin football's Messiah when he guided them to the provincial title within five months of taking the job in 2002.
They beat Kildare to claim their first silverware for seven years, but the Leinster champions eventually went out to Armagh in the semi-finals of the All Ireland.
It was downhill from there as the Dubs lost to Laois in the Leinster semis last year, and then Armagh in the All Ireland qualifiers. This year, Dublin went down in their first Leinster Championship game to Westmeath, and despite surviving the qualifiers this time, Kerry dispatched them easily in the quarter-finals.
Lyons' public image has not been helped by many rows with the media, and after a turbulent season, the Dublin County Board are expected to confirm the Mayo native will no longer be team manager.
