Owens wins Ulster Writers' award

Fermanagh full-back Barry Owens has been named the Ulster Writers' monthly merit award winner for July.

Owens has been outstanding for the Erne County in their fairytale run to the All-Ireland semi-finals, producing another powerful display in Saturday's shock All-Ireland quarter-final win over Armagh.

He picked up the July award for his performances against Cork and Donegal in the qualifiers.

Owens edged out team-mate Martin McGrath, Armagh's corner-back Francie Bellew and Antrim hurler Karl McKeegan.
