Waterford All Star John Mullane has defended his decision not to take the High Court route in the wake of his side's All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Kilkenny yesterday.

Mullane said after the match that his decision not to contest the GAC one-match ban was "absolutely the correct one".

Mullane was sent off in the Munster final against Cork and incurred the one-match suspension.

Numerous Waterford private businesses had offered to pay his costs if he wished to opt for the route taken by Westmeath's Rory O'Connell, who had a suspension overturned in the High Court, enabling him to line out for his county in the Leinster final.
