O'Sullivan in frame for Kerry game

It has been reported in the Evening Echo that Kevin McMahon, Maurice McCarthy and Ciarán O’Sullivan are all believed to be in the race for the number 12 jersey.

The Cork team will be announced tonight, and while it was believed that Carbery Rangers star McMahon was a certainty to start on the wing, he is now believed to be under pressure.

McMahon’s appearances for Cork in recent challenge games have been restricted by a persistent hamstring injury and his club’s appearance in the All-Ireland junior club final.

McCarthy has also been troubled with injury for much of Cork’s league campaign, but is now fully fit and reported to be going well in training.

But veteran O’Sullivan is emerging as the dark horse for the position, impressing in a recent challenge game against Dublin when he started in midfield.

In McMahon’s absence, O’Sullivan started at wing-forward in Cork’s final challenge game against Wexford and his versatility makes him an attractive option to the Cork selectors.

Meanwhile, Kevin O’Sullivan, Ilen Rovers’ talented forward, is expected to make his first competitive start for Cork on Sunday in the full-forward line.

The Cork management will also check on the fitness of Anthony Lynch tonight, but his chances of making the team remain slim, with Nemo’s Gary Murphy expected to be promoted.

Kerry are also expected to name their team after training in Killarney tonight.
