Galway romp past London

London 0-08 Galway 8-14

A brace of goals each from Padraig Joyce, Joe Bergin and Michael Donnellan saw Galway easy winners at Ruislip this afternoon, stretching London beyond belief in the Connacht SFC quarter final.

Former Wexford forward Scott Doran shook off a hamstring injury to start for the understrength exiles, but his three points went no way to matching the firepower of the Tribesmen, with Joyce leading the hungry visitors with 2-03.

A semi-final date with neighbours Mayo awaits on June 27 in Castlebar.

It all looked too easy from the off as Donnellan was allowed to fleet foot his way past the exiles defence and volley home his first goal on six minutes, and points from the 1998 All-star and Joyce had the visitors 1-02 to no score in front after 10 minutes.

Three points for London in two minutes had the locals in applause as Doran, Fergus McMahon and Darragh Kinneavey welcomed them to the 2004 championship.

Shorn of ten players to New York and Chicago from a NFL campaign which saw them defeat Carlow, the home side looked off pace.

Doran added two more frees to their tally but points from John Devane, Sean Og de Paor, Joe Bergin (0-02) and Nicky Joyce, allied to a stunning three goals from the 29th to 33rd minute from Bergin, Donnellan and Padraig Joyce had O'Mahony's

charges 5-07 to 0-05 in front at the interval.

Galway were far from finished however as despite conceding early scores to McMahon and Gordon Weldon after the restart, their rampage continued with four points added until Caltra youngster Michael Meehan danced his way through on 49 minutes to beat Gary McEvoy in the London goal.

London scored just once more from the fortieth minute on, as McMahon picked up a placed ball score.

Bergin (58 minutes) and Padraig Joyce (66) picked up their second goals as the home side tired and Matthew Clancy put the eventual 30 points between them with his only score on 68 minutes.
