Galway scrape past Cavan
Cavan 2-11 Galway 2-12
Galway qualified for the knock-out stages of the National Football League following their victory over Cavan at Breffni Park.
In a game which was played in a championship atmosphere, the lead changed hand on a number of occasions, and Galway looked in trouble early in the second half, but staged a spirited revival, with points from Padraig Joyce, Matthew Clancy and John Devane, to take a three-point lead.
Galway seemed to have wrapped up the points when Clancy got through for a goal, and with three minutes of normal time remaining, Galway led by 2-12 to 1-10.
Cavan staged a late rally, but a goal from sub Mark McKeever and a point from Larry Reilly weren’t enough to prevent a deserved Galway win.
