Sheehan claims points for Limerick
Limerick 1-13 Wexford 1-12
A last-minute point from Donnacha Sheehan gave Limerick their second win in the space of a week at the Gaelic Grounds after second-from-bottom Wexford had drawn level in the first minute of stoppage time.
Sheehan, a substitute last time out against Offaly, began and ended the scoring as his high arching score clinched a third win of the season for Pad Joe Whelehan’s revitalised outfit.
Sheehan and Andrew O’Shaughnessy combined for an early 0-2 to no score lead, before Paul Codd and Rory Jacob put Wexford in front with three unanswered points.
The game swung in the home side’s favour on 22 minutes when O’Shaughnessy drove a 20-metre free to the Wexford net, after he and Paul O’Grady had pushed the Shannonsiders back in front.
Larry Murphy and Codd reduced the arrears, but Limerick looked good at 1-10 to 0-5 at half-time thanks to 1-7 from Sheehan and O’Shaughnessy.
Wexford countered however with 1-6 without replied after the restart, as Rory Jacob’s 47th minute goal and point formed the backbone of their comeback.
Corner forward Mitch Jordan contributed a couple of scores as the game lay at 1-11 apiece with nine minutes remaining.
Sheehan hit over another crisp free, before Codd levelled late, and the Adare right corner forward was on hand again to win the game with seconds remaining.
