Royals enjoy another win

Meath 2-11 Cavan 0-12

Despite a late Cavan charge, Meath held on for a deserved 2-11 to 0-12 win at Navan this afternoon, notching a second win from three in NFL Division 1B.

Meath can thank Ray Magee for his haul of 2-3.

Although the Ulster men held a 0-3 to 0-2 advantage after 19 minutes, it was Sean Boylan’s side who were to end the half the happier.

Magee toe-poked home past Cavan goalkeeper Eoin Elliott and it was the Kilmainhamwood forward who struck again just three minutes later, latching onto a Joe Sheridan pass to slide the ball past Elliott once more for a 2-3 to 0-5 lead.

Midfielder Sheridan had earlier had a ninth minute goal chance saved, as did Cavan forward Jason Reilly, who was to end the game with four points.

Cavan resettled and ended the first half with a first score for Larry Reilly and Jason Reilly’s third effort, at 0-6 to 2-4 down.

Magee hit over two frees in the early stages of the second half to complete his tally before being substituted.

Dunshaughlin giant Niall Kelly came on to good effect, striking two late points to bring home a deserved Royal win, and leave Cavan still at the bottom of the Division.
