Derry and Bradley suffer bad break

Derry corner forward Shane Bradley’s compound fracture of his left leg ruined an impressive day for the Foylesiders at Ballinascreen, as they ran out comprehensive 1-18 to 0-6 winners over UUJ in Section A of the Dr. McKenna Cup SF.

Bradley shattered his leg following a late challenge on him by Jordanstown’s full back Finnian Moriarty, who was sent off subsequently.

In a bruising encounter, Bradley’s brother Paddy, who replaced him, was also red-carded along with UUJ’s Peter Donnelly for an off-the-ball incident.

Geoffrey McGonigle struck for Derry’s goal but the horrendous injury sustained by Bradley overshadowed proceedings.

''I am absolutely devastated for him,'' explained Derry boss Mickey Moran, ''he has come in this season, and has been a treat to work with. He always gives 100 per cent and was doing very well.

''When he got the injury he was in total agony, and I really feel for him.''

Elsewhere in Ulster, Armagh went down in Section C despite scoring two goals through Stephen Kernan.

They lost by two points, 2-5 to 0-13, after Kernan’s first goal on 24 minutes from the penalty spot had given the Orchard county some impetus at only two points down at the break, 1-2 to 0-7.
