Tyrone star Canavan faces spell on the sidelines

Tyrone's All-Ireland winning skipper Peter Canavan is bracing himself for a spell on the sidelines after doctors confirmed he will need to go under the knife to cure an ankle problem.

Canavan picked up the injury against Kerry last August and has yet to recover fully meaning an operation is the only course of action.
