Waterford GAA chiefs have jumped to the defence of underfire hurling manager Justin McCarthy following a number of outspoken comments by players.

Waterford GAA chiefs have jumped to the defence of underfire hurling manager Justin McCarthy following a number of outspoken comments by players.

Brian Greene and Peter Queally have both made it clear they won't return next year if McCarthy is in charge while a number of other players may follow suit.

But county chairman Paddy Joe Ryan defended: "I can’t stop the speculation but what I can do on behalf of myself and the county board is voice our confidence in the ability of Justin McCarthy."
