100,000 welcome Sam Maguire to Tyrone
Around 100,000 GAA fans turned out in Co Tyrone yesterday to welcome home the county’s All-Ireland-winning football team.
The team brought the Sam Maguire Cup on a trip around the county, visiting Aughnacloy, Ballygawley and Omagh, where 60,000 people turned out.
Tyrone won the cup for the first time when they beat Ulster rivals Armagh in Sunday’s final at Croke Park.
The Northerners have since been installed as 5-1 favourites to retain their title next year.
Dublin and Kerry have both been given odds of 6-1, with Galway 8-1, Cork 10-1 and Armagh, Meath, Donegal and Laois all 14-1.
