GPA slam bookmakers deal with players

The Gaelic Players Association has released a terse statement slamming bookmakers Paddy Power as 'short-term profiteers' for taking advantage of top hurling players.

The bookies paid three players from Cork and Wexford €750 each to sport the company's logo on their hurls during Sunday's All-Ireland semi-final which ended in stalemate.

GPA chief executive Dessie Farrell said: "It is blatantly obvious that those who arranged this deal have absolutely, and in full knowledge of their actions, taken advantage of gifted amateur players who deserve better."
