Wexford and Antrim clash at Croker
Guinness All-Ireland Hurling quarter-final
Antrim v Wexford, Croke Park, 2.15pm
When Wexford clashed with Antrim in the All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park on August 8, 1954, who would have thought that it would be all of 49 years before the counties would next meet in the championship?
The long gap will be closed today when the Ulster champions engage the beaten Leinster finalists in what should be a very interesting tie.
Wexford will start as favourites after beating last year’s Munster champions (and provincial finalists this year), Waterford last Saturday but Antrim will be hoping that they can build on last year when they made Tipperary work very hard in the quarter-final, before losing by 1-25 to 2-12.
Antrim 3-21 Derry 1-12 (Ulster final)
Antrim 0-21 Down 2-12 (Ulster semi-final)
Antrim 8-27 London 1-5 (Ulster quarter-final)
Wexford 1-20 Waterford 0-18 (All-Ireland qualifier)
Kilkenny 2-23 Wexford 2-12 (Leinster final)
Wexford 0-16 Offaly 1-12 (Leinster semi-final)
