Roscommon beat Offaly in extra time
Roscommon 1-20 Offaly 1-15
Tommy Carr's Roscommon scored an exhaustive win over Offaly last evening, enduring an extra-time examination of their qualifier credentials as a late Finbar Cullen goal brought matters to extra-time in Mullingar.
Colm Quinn's metronome left leg nosed Offaly into a 0-5 to 0-1 on 17 minutes, deserved evidence of their ploughman's grasp of possession.
But with two minutes left in the first half, Gerry Lohan placed a penalty kick, awarded for a foul on the advancing Seamus O'Neill, beyond Kevin Meehan's outstretched right hand to send Roscommon in level at the break, 1-5 to 0-8.
Frankie Dolan and Colm Quinn exchanged frees before Dolan's fourth placed score of the day gave Roscommon their second sight of the lead on 39 minutes.
The extra 20 minutes saw Offaly legs stumped a little and the dismissal of James Grennan.
Yet more scores from Dolan and point of the night from Seamus O'Neill topped off the win for Carr's men.
