Rampaging Cork set up meeting with Waterford
Cork 1-18, Clare 0-10
Rampant Cork face Waterford in the 2003 Munster Hurling Final after disposing of high-flying Clare at Thurles.
Clare missed suspended captain Seanie McMahon and failed to settle as Cork went on the rampage and built up a 1-05 to no score lead.
The goal came in the 14th minute when Ben O'Connor offloaded to Joe Deane, who volleyed to the back of the net.
Tony Carmody was Clare's only scorer of the first-half as the Rebels went to the dressing-room 1-06 to 0-02 ahead.
The Clare fightback was expected and it began immediately. Five points, including three in as many minutes from Niall Gilligan, got Clare back to within a goal.
However, Cork soaked up the pressure and Joe Deane kept them ahead from frees.
Clare's day went from bad to worse as they conceded a penalty and were reduced to 14 men within minutes.
Midfielder Colin Lynch was sent to the line for a foul on Mickey O'Connell, and the backline conceded a penalty for holding Alan Browne in the square.
Cork sent their shot over the bar, Joe Deane scored his eighth point of the game and four more unanswered scores sealed the win for Donal O'Grady's men.
