Cavan bounce back to beat Mayo

Cavan 1-16 Mayo 0-11

Cavan bounced back from their defeat by Fermanagh the previous weekend when they outplayed Mayo at Breffni Park in this Division 1B National Football League game.

Over-fussy referee Eugene Murtagh of Longford issue practically a dozen yellow cards resulting in little fluency in the game.

Cavan led at half-time by 0-7 to 0-3 but took a grip on the game in the early stages of the second half through the leadership of Dermot McCabe at midfield and Larry Reilly in attack.

A disappointing Mayo side who were minus the Crossmolina players produced a late rally to leave five points between the teams with five minutes left.

However Cavan finished strongly and a goal from Jason Reilly - who didn't start the game due to an ankle injury and was a second half replacement - was a timely boost to the home side.
