Laois propose to end O'Neill's monopoly

Laois club Shanahoe have had a motion passed at county level seeking the rewording of rule 14 which essentially gives O'Neill's a monopoly in providing sports gear to the GAA.

The club want the doors opened to international companies to maximise profits within the GAA.

Club chairman Anthony Delaney said: "It seems ridiculous to me that the GAA will not accept sponsorship from international sports companies but will accept money from large drinks companies."

GPA chairman Dessie Farrell said: "The present situation is only of benefit to O'Neill's, but they cannot be blamed for that."
