Mark Herbert from Kildare became a three time All-Ireland Champion when he won this year's MBNA Kick Fada.

Herbert, who has won the competition for the past two years beat off stiff opposition from Roscommon duo Ray Lannon and Derek Thompson.

Of the 19 starters, including Derry star Anthony Tohill and Tipperary’s Declan Browne, it was quickly whittled down to eight, including Dublin’s John McGee and Down All-Ireland medal winner Ross Carr.

However it was the 61-meter mark that was to produce the winner after an amazing five rounds of sudden death between Herbert, Lannon and Thompson.

The ladies competition proved equally exciting, with Monahan’s Vourneen Quigley winning the ladies MBNA Kick Fada title with a kick of 43 meters.

Quigley beat Tyrone’s Martina Glackin who had also kicked 43 meters.

The MBNA Masters Kick Fada produced the tightest competition of the afternoon with Donegal’s Martin McHugh beating off Dublin’s Barney Rock with an incredible kick of 54 meters.

McHugh’s fellow county-man Marty Carolan came third.
