McConville could land top scorer prize

Armagh ace, Oisin McConville needs to land six points in the Bank of Ireland football final against Kerry next Sunday week to end up as the championship’s top scorer.

McConville is currently on 0-36 from seven games, five points behind Ray Cosgrove (Dublin) and four behind Cork’s Colin Corkery.

However, both Cosgrove and Corkery are out of the All-Ireland race, leaving McConville with a chance to clinch top spot on All-Ireland final day.

Kerry’s Mike Frank Russell is currently lying in sixth place on 3-23 (32 points) so he would need to go on a remarkable scoring spree in the All-Ireland final to have any chance to finishing at No.1.

Cosgrove is the top goal scorer on six while Rory Gallagher (Fermanagh) scored four goals, including three against Monaghan in the first round of the Ulster championship.

Gallagher, who played four games, has the highest average (7.5pts).

Donegal have two sharp-shooters in the top ten with Adrian Sweeney in fourth place and Brendan Devenney in tenth place, while Sligo’s Dessie Sloyan is the only Connacht man in the top ten, having scored 2-23 which earns him ninth spot.

Declan Browne (Tipperary) put together an impressive 2-27 in five games while Michael Reidy (Limerick) finished on 2-23 from five games.
