Herron named winner of Ulster GAA Writers' Bass Merit Award
Antrim's hurling left half-back Ciaran Herron has been honoured after his sterling display against Tipperary in the Guinness All-Ireland Senior Championship quarter-final at Croke Park last month.
The 21-year-old Herron is named today as the winner of the Ulster GAA Writers' Bass Merit Award for July, despite a strong challenge from Donegal's Adrian Sweeney and Armagh's Steven McDonnell.
"Winning this prestigious award is a real big surprise for me. I suppose it is a reflection on the Antrim team's performance against Tipperary," said Herron at a reception in the Ulster Brewery.
As his award he received sports vouchers from Bass Ireland and Pro*Star Sports and an engraved Belleek China vase. He will also get two tickets to the Ulster GAA Writers' annual banquet in November.
