Galway hammer Down - report
Down 0-13 Galway 7-15
It was nothing more than an afternoon stroll at Casement Park for Galway as they whitewashed Down in the Guinness All-Ireland Senior Hurling qualifier at Casement Park.
The final tally of 7-15 to 0-13 tells it's own tale.
Down were totally outclassed despite hitting 13 points as Galway controlled the action all over the field.
At half time the winners led by 5-8 to 0-4 with Fergal Healy (2), David Tierney, Alan Kerins and Mark Kerins getting the goals.
Down did up their game in the second half but were struck a blow when their best player Tom Coulter limped off injured in the 43 minute.
They scored some good long-range points but they still leaked goals at the back
with Ollie Fahy again hitting trhe net in the 51st minute and Fergal Healy getting his third shortly afterwards.
It was the slaughter of the innocent as Galway continued to score at will and anything Down got was hard earned.
