Tipp surge past Limerick - Match Report

Limerick 1-13 Tipperary 1-20

All Ireland champions Tipperary are well on course to retain the Liam McCarthy Cup with a 1-20 to 1-13 win over last year's quarter-finalists Limerick.

Limerick took the lead in the first half through a 12th minute Ollie Moran goal which saw them edge ahead 1-1 to 0-3.

However, a John Carroll goal, coupled with points from Noel Morris, Eoin Kelly and Carroll, saw Tipperary regain the lead - which they didn't relinquish for the rest of the game.

Tipperary went in at the break 1-12 to 1-6 up and in the second half built their lead to 10 points at one stage. Eoin Kelly continuing his good form from the Clare match, chipped in with 12 points, nine from frees and three from play.

Despite a late Limerick rally, with points from Peter Lawlor, James Butler and Mark Keane, Tipperary held on to inflict a bruising defeat.

Tipperary now face Waterford in the 2002 Munster Final while Limerick join Clare and Cork in the qualifying series.
