Wide-kicking puts Louth out of Leinster SFC
Kildare 0-12 Louth 0-11
Louth kicked themselves out of the Leinster SFC race in tallying 19 wide in this closely-fought quarter final at Pairc Tailteann in Navan.
Kildare, who led 0-08 to 0-06 at the break had to call on all of their experience as the wee county fought tenaciously throughout the second half.
However, the Lilywhites were let off the hook by dominant Louth who kicked 12 wide in that period.
The winners were forced to introduce seasoned campaigners Dermot Earley, Glen Ryan and Padraig Brennan and it was Sarsfields man Brennan who scored the winning point three minutes from the end.
Karl O'Dwyer was top marksman in the Kildare attack with four points while Martin Lynch scored three points from the edge of the square.
