GAA: Kelly becomes president of GAA

Kerryman Sean Kelly has become the 34th president of the GAA.

He romped home to a landslide victory with 195 votes out of 324.

News to him was Kildare's Seamus Aldridge who polled 62 votes.

Longford ALbert Fallon claimed 44 while Mayos PJ McGrath scooped 33.

Kelly takes over in what has been described as " a difficult and dangerous time for the GAA" but his years of hard work have finally paid off.

Earlier this morning, a motion to open Croke park to other sports was defeated 197-106.

Later today it's expected that the second controversial motion (the recommendation to split Dublin GAA) will be deferred until a special congress due to be held in Autumn.
