Cork fell to their first defeat of the Allianz National hurling league with a three point defeat at the hands of All-Ireland champions Tipperary.

Despite leading by five points with 15 minutes to go, Tipperary came back to win but Cork still progress to the semi-finals.

Tipperary led by four points to nil after the quarter-hour but Cork gradually got back into the game through Ben O'Connor and Alan Browne.

Tipp led 0-09 to 0-06 at the break, but within 10 minutes of the second half Cork were level through Joe Deane, Eamon Collins and Niall McCarthy.

Joe Deane followed up with a goal and a point to give the Rebels the lead for the first time in the game. But Mark O'Leary and Tommy Dunne came back for Tipp.

Cork then went further into the lead with three unanswered points to leave it 1-13 to 0-11.

A Eugene O'Neill goal began the Tipperary comeback which saw them fire over five unanswered points to leave the scoreline 1-17 to 1-14 in the league champions' favour.
