GAA: Galway make heavy work of Meath
Galway 3-18, Meath 2-11
Galway made heavy work of dispatching the challenge of a limited Meath outfit in a lacklustre hurling league clash at Athenry.
The home team needed to win by a cricket score to pip Kilkenny at the top of Div 1A, but only managed to be on level terms at the interval after a very poor opening half display.
It took the introduction of young Damien Hayes to kick start Galway into life as the former star struck 2-2.
Galway who were hit by the resignation of selector John Connolly on the eve of the game, now face Tipperary in the league quarter-finals next Sunday.
