GAA: Derry secure first league camaign victory

Relegated Derry secured their first league victory of the campaign with a comprehensive win over Down at Ballinascreen.

With the wind at their backs in the first half, Down failed to take advantage and led by only 0-8 to 0-5 at the interval.

Fifteen seconds into the second half, Anthony Tohill set Dermot Dougan up for Derry's goal and sustained pressure saw Derry pile on point after point to go clear for a comfortable victory.

Down's consolation goal came in stoppage time at the end of the game, Michael Walsh drilling a 14 metres free to the top corner of the net.
