GAA:Waterford open with strength

A strong opening half performance by the home side, at the end of which they

led by 1-11 to 0-04 after they had out-hurled Galway, set up Waterford for a

deserved victory.

Galway staged a dramatic final quarter fight-back scoring six points without

reply in a 14-minute period to cut the gap to five points (1-15 to 0-13)

with seven minutes remaining.

Further points from Niall Hayes and Declan O'Brien saw only a goal between

the sides with five minutes remaining, but after points were exchanged,

Waterford held on for victory
