Sligo 3-11, Clare 1-09

Goals by Gerry McGowan and Dessie Sloyan during a blistering seven minute spell at the start of the second half powered Sligo to a deserved win over Clare at Markievicz Park.

Clare were in with a real chance of scoring their third league win in as many years over the home side when they went to the dressingroom on level terms but Sligo’s second half resurgence overwhelmed the Munster men.

Paul Hehir was the hero for Clare in the first half.

The Doonbeg clubman opened the scoring in the second minute and he put the visitors four points ahead after 22 minutes with a fisted goal from Denis Russell’s well placed ball.

Gerry McGowan raised Sligo’s first flag in the eighth minute but the visitors dominated much of the half.

Sligo’s Michael Langan was sent off in the final minutes for after collecting two yellow cards.
