GAA: Tyrone beat All-Ireland champs
Galway 0-09, Tyrone 1-08
The quick thinking of Peter Canavan in the eighth minute led to Tyrone's only goal at Ballinasloe today when they became the first team to topple the All Ireland champions with a two-point win played in torrential rain.
A pitch inspection an hour before gave the game the go-ahead and the northerners avenged their three-point defeat at the same venue last year with a display that floundered a Galway team that lined out short five of their All-Ireland winning side.
At half-time, Tyrone led by a point 1-04 to 0-06 and Galway were held scoreless for 22 mins of the second half as the visitors gained the upper hand even though they squandered four easy chances in the space of seven minutes and had their corner back Brian Robinson dismissed six minutes
before the final whistle.
