Hurling: Tipp shade it in pulsating final

Tipperary 2-18 Galway 2-15

Tipperary claimed their 25th All-Ireland Title in a pulsating game of hurling against Galway in the Guinness Senior Hurling Final at Croke Park.

Over 68,00 people watched this thrilling game which saw Tipperary in control for most of the way despite Galway's best efforts.

Playing with the aid of a strong breeze, Tipperary opened very brightly.

They went into 1-5 0-2 lead by the 22nd minute, Mark O'Leary grabbing the goal, after a pass from Declan Ryan.

Galway responded and by the interval there were just two points in it, a Eugene Cloonan goal in the 25th minute starting their comeback.

A second Mark O'Leary goal three minutes after the resumption sent Tipperary on their way to victory.

Yet they had to fight all the way to claim the honour.

Galway had a second goal from Fergal Healy with 8 minutes remaining, but Tipperary showed their class and fired over the scores to claim the title.
