GAA: Tipp in All Ireland Final
Tipperary as a result of their 11 point victory qualified for the All Ireland Senior Hurling Final, by overcoming Wexford in this Semi-Final replay at a rain-drenched Croke Park.
The first half contained all the drama.
Tipperary led by 1-4 to 0-1 after 18 mins John Carroll getting the goal just nine minutes into the game, which was the opening score.
Wexford through the accuracy of Paul Codd hauled themselves back into contention and trailed by just a single point , 1-5 to 0-7after 30 mins.
Then in the space of two minutes, the whole game was transformed following two controversial decisions by referee Pat Horan.
After 31 minutes, Horan dismissed both Liam Dunne (Wexford) and Tipp's Brian O'Meara following the intervention of the linesman while a minute later
Wexford's corner-forwarrd Michael Jordan was also red carded.
Tipperary finished the half holding a single point lead 1-6 to 0-8.
Fortune favoured Tipp in the second half as they used their numerical advantage to full affect.
Gradually they assumed control with goals by substitute corner forward Eugene O'Neill on 42 and 72 mins securing their final passage.
It was Tipp's day and now they can look forward to the All Ireland Final on September 9.
