GAA: Sligo defeat the Lilywhites
Sligo 0-16, Kildare 0-15 (full-time)
Sligo have knocked Kildare out of the All-Ireland series following their one-point victory at Croke Park this afternoon.
Sligo have not played a championship match at Croke Park since 1975, while Kildare has had countless close encounters with Sam in recent years.
The Connacht side, who lined out in their alternative all-black jerseys to avoid a clash with the Lilywhites, lead from the off and there was only a point in it at the interval with Sligo 0-09 to Kildare's 0-08.
Sligo were reduced to 14 men after just eight minutes of the second half when Neil Carew was sent off and Mick O'Dwyer's side battled to put further pressure on the Sligo men.
However, underdogs Sligo began to break away in the second half and built up a three-point lead, before Kildare got it back to a point, but it was not enough.
Dessie Sloyane put in a man of the match performance by scoring eight of Sligo's points.
