GAA: Byrne's injury time point gives Carlow victory
A Joe Byrne punched point two minutes deep into injury time gave Carlow a deserved victory over Wicklow in this Bank of Ireland opening round replay at Newbridge today.
Carlow had stormed into a 0-5 0-0 lead inside 20 minutes with two points from Joe Nevin, and points from Sean Kavanagh, Pat Nolan and John Hickie, who both missed goal chances in the process.
Tommy Gill hauled Wicklow back into contention but Carlow sill lead 0-5 0-4 at the break.
Both sides struggled to keep the pace after the interval, but Carlow still lead 0-8 0-7 until Tommy Gill equalised 30 seconds into injury time.
But it was Byrne's dramatic point which was to put Carlow into the quarter-final clash with Kildare.
