GAA:No party for Mayo as championship looms

Mayo have announced that they will not be holding a welcome home celebration for their victorious National Football League winners.

Mayo have announced that they will not be holding a welcome home celebration for their victorious National Football League winners.

The county's one-point success over Galway in Croke Park yesterday was their first league final win since 1971.

However, county press officer Aidan Brennan said many of the U-21 players on the panel would be doing university exams at this time.

He said the team would now be focusing on the championship instead. "The last time we won the league, we went out in the first round of the championship straight afterwards.

"So while the decision might disappoint a lot of Mayo people who have waited a while to see this side win something, we're sure they'll understand," he said.
