Football: Clare upset the form book
Sligo 1-07, Clare 1-09 (full-time)
Clare upset the form book with a dramatic 1-09 to 1-07 win over Sligo in an action-packed Allianz National Football League Division 1B game at Markievicz Park.
Three unanswered Clare points - two from man-of-the-match Denis Russell, who bagged 1-03 of his team's total - in an eight minute spell in the second half proved to be the turning point of the game.
Sligo opened the first-half scoring with a Paul Taylor point after 4 mins with a Denis Russell goal in the 12th minute, after Sligo corner back Philip Gallagher failed to cut out the danger, heralded the start of a period of Clare dominance.
The home side were held scoreless for nine minutes of the half, but a Dessie Sloyan goal after Clare goalkeeper James Hanratty allowed the ball to slip from his grasp set Sligo up for a 1-04 to 1-02 interval lead.
