GAA: Cork on course for knock-out stages
Cork 1-17 Waterford 1-15 (Div 1B)
Cork remained firmly on course for the knock-out stages of the national hurling league after a narrow but deserved victory over Waterford at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
Considering the difficult underfoot conditions, there was much to admire in Cork's display.
Seanie McGrath and Joe Deane made handsome contributions to the final tally.
Alan Browne scored a cracking goal and Kevin Murray was conspicuous after he was introduced.
The defeat is a massive setback to Waterford and all the more so considering that they dominated the earlier proceedings.
They led at the interval 1-8 to 0-9 with right corner forward John Mullane and Paul Flynn getting the bulk of their scores.
On the resumption, Cork upped the tempo considerably and points from Ben O'Connor and Seanie McGrath reduced the deficit.
The game's defining moment came in the 52nd minute when Alan Browne crashed the ball to the net after superb work by Neil Ronan and Kevin Murray.
After that, the home side never looked back and held out for a deserved victory.
