GAA: Unconvincing Offaly grab the points

Unconvincing Offaly returned to winning ways in Navan this afternoon but they were made to fight all the way against a battling Meath outfit.

The hosts were unfortunate to find themselves 1-08 to 0-09 down at the break with Offaly's Kevin Pilkington netting a late goal after the Midlanders had trailed for most of the opening period.

Meath's Kevin Dowd levelled the scoring with a 49th minute goal but the visitors then assumed control with successive points from Johnny Dooley (three) and Gary Hanniffy (two).
