Waterford county board records surplus for third consecutive year

Secretary Pat Flynn stressed financial stability needs to be carefully maintained. “It is important to acknowledge that the board’s finances are in reasonable shape but there is more improvement required and this entails constant monitoring and control.” Flynn also disclosed that 3 Mobile have renewed their Déise sponsorship deal for next season. “The income from our sponsors now form an essential part of the board’s ability to finance operations in the county and indeed without that financial support our team preparations and other activities would be seriously curtailed.”
The cost of running inter county teams soared from €664,485 in 2015 to €812,582. The senior hurlers accounted for €473,307, a rise of €111,000. The spend on the senior football team jumped by €8,000 to €138,526. The U21 hurling side cost €71,709. The board received €205,975 from National League gate receipts, compared with €120,450 in 2015. Local gate receipts swelled by €33,000 to €218,264. Fundraising figures doubled in size during the year to €104,829.
