Sean Cavanagh: Mark will make games even more scrappy

Tyrone football icon Sean Cavanagh has revealed deep concerns about the introduction of the mark rule in Gaelic football, suggesting it will “change the face of our games” and not for the better.

The decision to introduce the mark in 2017 was taken at Congress earlier this year and confirmed again by Central Council last weekend, following a series of trials in recent third-level league games.

Ex-Ireland captain Cavanagh has plenty of experience of the mark from the International Rules series and is adamant it’s a bad move which is only going to lead to the game becoming “more scrappy”.
