Sciath na Scol round-up: Holy Cross claim victory over North Presentation

Holy Cross ran out victorious against North Presentation in Roinn Urban GF2 of the Allianz Sciath na Scol at Mayfield yesterday, with captain Tamara Geasley leading from the front as her side closed out the game in style.
It was North Pres who started the strongest however with Nikolena Kolceg, who posted all 1-06 of her side’s points, snatching a goal and a point in the first minute of the game.
Holy Cross, now alert to the danger, struck back through Geasley, whose shot crashed off the crossbar and into the hands of forward Mya O’Donovan. The Holy Cross pupil buried her shot on the fourth minute to close in on North Pres’ lead.
From here, the winners built a steady lead with Destiny Camara- O’Reilly, Julie Hogan and O’Donovan all scoring points before Ayesha Camara-O’Reilly’s long range free-in dipped under the bar for a goal that shook the City side.
Hogan made sure of the victory with a well-taken goal on the 22nd minute but North Pres, to their had some standout performers of their own with Kolceg, Anna O’Callaghan and Alannah Ryan showing up well, even as their side trailed.

GS Chionn tSáile survived a late Knockavilla onslaught to claim the Roinn DF4 trophy in the Allianz Sciath na Scol yesterday in Mayfield.
Knocknavilla sprung to life in an exciting last third, bringing the game to the wire as goals from super substitutes Shane Ryan (2) and Calum Fennelly put just two points between the sides.
It was hard to envisage a comeback, given the Gaelschoil’s electric start through Gearoid Ó Cearnaigh, who posted 1-02 in the first two minutes.
This lead was reinforced by Cian Ó Ceilleacháin’s brace before the impressive Zack Ó Briain fired over a point.
At this point, Knocknavilla unleashed their bench and there was an immediate resurgence as Ryan fired one past goalkeeper Ted Ó Ceilleacháin, and Fennelly followed suit in a matter of seconds.
Ryan got his second to bring the difference to 2 points, with as many minutes on the clock.
And Knocknavilla nearly pulled off a shock victory too was it not for an Evan O’Shea shot that inched wide.

It was double heartbreak for Knocknavilla at the Allianz Sciath na Scol yesterday, as both teams lost their respective finals, with the girls coming up seven points short against a tenacious Rathduff outfit.
It took some time for this game to catch fire, with Megan O’Shea’s point for Rathduff opening the scores after 12 minutes.
Knocknavilla wasted little time replying however, as they immediately took the lead when Miah Kelleher’s ball found Cara O’Sullivan, who powered the ball goalwards.
Rathduff sharpshooter Niamh Barry hit two points to level matters but they nearly lost hold of their opponents when Ciara Taheny’s shot came off the post.
From here, the Grenagh side took control and Barry came into her own, lashing over two points as the game slipped from Knockavilla’s grasp.
Knocknavilla could only manage one more score from the tireless O’Sullivan before points from Ellie Moston St. Leger and captain Tia Walsh, along with a sucker-punch goal from Barry, put a seven point gap between the sides.
