Bubbles the star turn in Tipperary quarter-finals
All-Ireland winner John 'Bubbles' O’Dwyer gave the standout performance of the Tipperary SHC quarter-finals, scoring 13 points, seven from play, as Killenaule toppled fancied Kilruane MacDonaghs by 2-20 to 1-20 in a thrilling Semple Stadium clash on Saturday.
Killenaule also had goalie Jonathan Gleeson to thank for a fine save from Brian “Buggy” O’Meara in the last minute.
Favourites Thurles Sarsfields marched into another semi-final with a surprisingly straightforward 2-22 to 0-13 win over Borris-Ileigh on Saturday.
A storming second period saw Sarsfields turn a one-point interval advantage into a 15-point winning margin. Borris were not helped by the loss of county man Conor Kenny to injury in the second minute.
Tipp defenders Michael Cahill and Padraic Maher shone for Sars.
Two goals in four minutes early in the second-half from Tadhg Gallagher and Ruairi Gleeson set Kiladangan up for a merited 2-18 to 1-17 win over Seamus Callanan's Drom-Inch on Sunday in Semple.
Mikey Connors eventually netted for Drom in the 62nd minute but it was too late to save them.
And former county man Timmy Hammersley hit ten points as Clonoulty-Rossmore coasted past Mullinahone 1-18 to 1-10.
Mullinahone suffered a major setback when former Tipp star Eoin Kelly was injured after 18 minutes. He played on for a further 12 minutes before limping off before the interval.
Paidi White’s goal in injury time sealing Clonoulty's semi-final place.
