On Saturday, James Stephens beat the Rower-Inistioge 1-14 to 0-13 with powerful performances from Eoin Larkin and Jack McGrath.
Larkin helped himself to seven points (five from play) with McGrath adding four from frees as they built on a first-half Niall Mullins goal to take control of the game.
On Sunday, Bennettsbridge saw their long unbeaten run - which stretched back to their junior days in 2013 - come to an end against St Martin’s, 4-16 to 1-19. John Maher bagged 1-8 for Martin’s with Tomas Breen adding 2-2.
Brothers Martin and Andrew Gaffney were double trouble for Fenians as Dicksboro blasted their past the 2015 Shield champions on a 4-15 to 1-12 scoreline. The duo netted all four goals for the city side – Martin three Andrew one as part of his 1-5 haul – to leave the Johnstown men bottom of Group B.
Goals were plentiful too in Ballyhale, as the Shamrocks saw off Mullinavat 3-22 to 5-7. TJ Reid scored 1-9, with Colin Fennelly adding 1-1. Mullinavat’s John Walsh scored 3-6 yet still ended up on the losing side.
Erin’s Own (Castlecomer) beat Danesfort by 1-21 to 1-11, a result that leaves Danesfort as the only winless team in Group A.
An early Cillian Treacy goal helped Danesfort into a 1-5 to 0-7 lead by half-time but Comer stormed back with Sean Buggy netting eight points and Stephen Daly a second-half goal.
O’Loughlin Gaels got the better of Clara. Mark Bergin hit 0-11 for the city side, with Chris Bolger replying with 0-10. But a second-half goal from Mark Kelly gave O’Loughlin’s some revenge
