UCC face Seandún in championship opener

The first game of the new-look Cork SFC takes place tonight as UCC clash with Seandún at Ballinlough (throw-in 7pm).

UCC face Seandún in championship opener

With the county board having taken into account complaints clubs winning their opening clashes have to wait too long for another game, the competition now features a two-tier second round, with 2A featuring first-round winners and 2B consisting of the sides that lose. From there, the 2A winners advance while the losers have another chance, against winners of round 2B games, with the championship straight knockout from there.

While the SFC is now being run on an all-inclusive basis, tonight’s game is between two sides who competed in the erstwhile divisions and colleges section. For UCC manager Dr Con Murphy, lack of knowledge on player availability remains the perennial problem.
