Suspension risk hangs over Kingdom duo Peter Crowley and Shane Enright

Kerry’s Peter Crowley and Shane Enright run the risk of picking up a one-match suspension should they incur a black card or be sent off for a second bookable offence in Sunday’s Division 1 semi-final against Roscommon.

Of all four remaining teams, Kerry are most in danger of losing players to cumulative bans.

Dublin have Jonny Cooper on the verge of missing a game for a black and a double caution red card while Roscommon’s Cathal Cregg and Donegal’s Neil McGee have two black cards to their names.

A one-match ban must be served in the case of a player either picking up three black cards, three double yellow card sending-offs or a combination of both totalling three dismissals over the course of a season’s league and championship.

Cumulative bans, like regular suspensions, are carried from the league into the championship so there remains the threat of Crowley, Enright, Cregg and McGee missing a summer match. McGee has already served a one-match ban for his straight red card against Kerry but has also been automatically substituted for infringements in Donegal’s opening and closing round games against Down and Monaghan.

Crowley picked up his second black card of the league campaign in Sunday’s final round win over Cork in Tralee.

His first such infringement came in the away victory over Mayo, while Enright’s infractions occurred in the Dublin and Donegal matches.

Dublin defender Cooper was black carded in Castlebar in February before being shown two yellows in the win over Cork last month, while Cregg was deemed to have committed cynical fouls against Kerry and Dublin.

Last spring, Donegal captain Michael Murphy was the first player to serve a ban under the new cumulative suspension rules after accruing two black cards before two yellow cards against Cork in Ballyshannon. After sitting out a game against Mayo, his disciplinary record was wiped clean for the remainder of the year.
