Smaller counties must challenge Dublin funding focus, says Niall Carew

Dublin GAA will continue to pocket the largest slice of Central Council funding until smaller counties find their voice and challenge the status quo, according to Sligo football manager Niall Carew.

Dublin received €1,460,400 in games development funding from Croke Park in 2015. Laois was next on the list as they were allocated €165,001 in 2015.

Sligo obtained €43,200 last year, and Carew, writing in his weekly column in the Sligo Champion, insisted that greater resources are required to keep the county competitive at underage level — the Sligo U21 footballers were beaten 1-18 to 0-8 by Roscommon in the Connacht semi-final last Saturday.
