Galway 1-8 Leitrim 1-5: Galway manager Kevin Walsh praised the improved workrate of his side, but they still need another win next week against GMIT to reach the FBD league final.

Substitute Danny Cummins fired the winning goal for the Tribesmen 12 minutes from time, but Walsh was happiest with his side’s intent against a strong Leitrim outfit.

“Regardless of the result, the game was important for the young lads,” said Walsh. “It was great to see the lads were patient.

“There could have been a few more goals got, but the work-rate was good today — it was an awful lot better than last week.”

Three points in a row from Leitrim to start the second half, and Nevin O’Donnell’s first-half goal, had given them a two-point lead, but after his introduction, Cummins punched a point and then fired the winning goal for his side.
