Damien Cahalane and Brian Moylan in the half-back line, Dean Brosnan at midfield, and Cathal Cormack and William Leahy in the half-forward line, are the five players to survive from the side which fell to Clare last weekend.
Cian Buckley, Colm Barry, and Darren Browne, form a new-look full-back line, with Aidan Walsh named at centre-back. Patrick O’Rourke, Tim O’Mahony, and Dayne Lee, are among the more inexperienced players named further forward.
Kingston has named a particularly strong outfit for the first of Cork’s two games this weekend, Saturday’s Canon O’Brien fixture against UCC at the Mardyke (throw-in 2.15pm). Seven of the starting team featured against Galway in last year’s All-Ireland quarter-final.
Midleton’s Patrick O’Mahony, having lined out at full-back in Sixmilebridge, is again handed the number three shirt. Charleville’s Alan Dennehy, and Niall Cashman of Blackrock are selected on the left flank of defence. Newcestown’s Luke Meade, named at left corner-forward, joins a host of household names in the Cork attack.
Football boss Peadar Healy has made five changes for Sunday’s trip to An Rinn. Into the starting team come goalkeeper Brendan O’Connell, James Loughrey and Bart Daly in the half-back line, and Andrew O’Sullivan and Mark Collins in the half-forward line.
Elsewhere, new Galway hurling manager Micheál Donoghue has unveiled his management team for the coming year. As expected Francis Forde from Turloughmore, who this year managed St Rynagh’s to reach the Offaly SHC final, is a selector along with Noel Larkin from the Meelick/Eyrecourt club.
Meanwhile, Bryan Cullen is the new high performance manager for Dublin GAA. The former Dublin football captain takes up the role after four years with Leinster Rugby.
