Dublin began the new year in a positive manner when defeating UCD by six points in their Walsh Cup encounter at Belfield last night.
Two goals in quick succession by Eamonn Dillon and Paul Ryan at the end of the first quarter handed Ger Cunningham’s Dublin the early initiative. But with Colm Cronin impressing for the students, UCD managed to stay in touch through a brace of goals by Oisin O’Rorke.
Dublin struggled in the second quarter and O’Rorke’s third goal in added time ensured a 3-8 to 2-6 lead for Nicky English’s side.
However, Dublin improved upon the restart with Ryan scrambling a goal in the 40th minute. They sealed the two points as Dillon fired another compelling strike seven minutes from time to complement scores from Rian McBride and the lively Niall McMorrow.
